We have Lift Off! - Mini Challenge Week 1

I did it! I can't quite believe it, in one week, here is my rocket and astronaut by Amanda Berry at Fluff and Fuzz, my 1st toy in my 6 week Mini Challenge.
Blast Off!!

I would highly recommend this pattern, I wouldn't recommend trying to do it in a week, especially when you can only knit at night!

It's a good size, a small pillow for a child's bed. The finished rocket is about 40cm tall (including the fins) and the astronaut about 15cm tall. I did consider trying to do the pattern in the round, however I decided to knit as it was written, which I did regret when it came to sewing it up! It took a while, however I am pretty pleased with how it turned out.

I tied french knots instead of
buttons for buttons on the space suit

I love the pocket

I've not decided which pattern I will attempt next. However reading over all the patterns, it would appear I didn't chose the most difficult one first...

Stay tuned tomorrow when I'll let you know which pattern is next in my Mini Challenge.

Yes I can knit a toy stethoscope!

In answer to the question I asked in my last post, it turns out I can, and did knit a stethoscope. Well technically I crocheted the end piece by using my basic crochet skills learned from making my first item in the handmade challenge, the crochet cake.

The finished product complete with 'Doctor Bag'

The rest was simply knitted icord around chenille sticks. I taped the joins and the ends so no pointy bits of metal can stick out from the wool.

WIP late at night, knitting icord around chenille sticks

I then found a cardboard box, knitted an icord handle, attached it, put a cross on the front of it and a few brand new syringes inside (from one of Sophie's many hospital stays). There you have it. Hopefully it's just what Felix was after and we can all look forward to some good old fashioned doctoring from now on.

I should probably throw a few bandages in for good measure

So that's one distraction taken care of, although I feel like I could add more. What would you put in a toy doctor kit?

Make a scarf and make it snappy

I had a blast making these scarves! It wasn't a terribly complex pattern to follow, didn't seem to take very long, and they came up a treat. The pattern is Morehouse Farm's Baby Alligator Scarf. Although living in Australia, I've adapted it to be a crocodile (by changing the name and nothing more about it!)

A bunch O' Crocs

I gifted them to some 2 year olds, along with a copy of Roald Dahl's The Enormous Crocodile which went down really well. I have a large list of other animal related knits I'd like to attempt, and I am certain accompanying children's books would not be difficult to find.

On an unrelated note, looking back at a few of my photos, my next task is to improve my photography skills when it comes to objects. Fast moving children, I seem to have no trouble with?!
